Glenn Hoddle Academy XI vs. Cadiz XI

DATE: 21 May 2009

VENUE: Away at Cadiz
FINAL SCORE: 1-0 Victory for the GHA

The Glenn Hoddle Academy continued its successful run of matches against senior Spanish opposition with another tough match with Cadiz, which resulted in a 1 – 0 score line for the Academy.

Playing again with four across the back and a diamond formation in midfield the GHA continued to out pace their opposition and tactically proved to have the edge.

The whole squad performed well with great link ups through the pitch and a very solid performance across the park. The goal, when it came, showed the dominence of the GHA team, and the pace that worries so many defences.

Jay Folkes picked up the ball on the right and ran through two tackles on his way to the by-line, then tacking on two more challenges he shot into the goal’s top corner, cementing a superb solo goal.

Other members of the squad also impressed the watching scouts and with four more fixtures to take place in the next three weeks, the players continue to showcase their skills to European and English clubs.

Academy Senior Coach Nigel Spackman said: “The lads played very well and put in an excellent team performance against a very solid Cadiz side. They were certainly very strong at the back and it took a special goal to break the deadlock.

“We have more fixtures against this caliber of opposition over the next three weeks and we will also be playing with some trialists and new squad members as the GHA continues to expand”.
