Glenn Hoddle Academy Provides Much Needed Player Development
The Glenn Hoddle Academy Club is continuing its innovative player development programme, returning players to the game after they had previously been released from top-flight clubs. No other organisation is dedicated to developing talented released players and giving them a chance to fulfil their dreams of playing professional football.
Glenn Hoddle firmly believes that released players can be lost to the game far too early and the academy in Spain is providing the best of these players with a second and often final chance for a career in football, whether in England, Spain, or further afield.
Players released throughout the year are able to apply for a place at the Glenn Hoddle Academy and are assessed at special trials held in England and in Spain. Those with the right ability and attitude to development are considered for a full-time place at the unique professional football development centre, based in Jerez, Southern Spain.
With six players back in to the game in its first year, the Glenn Hoddle Academy is making a real difference to the lives of players who would otherwise be lost to the game.
The Academy squad arrived back in England today to begin training and trialling with senior clubs ahead of a further term in Spain before the end of December, where they will be playing top quality Spanish opposition including; Cadiz FC, Huelva FC, Jerez FC and Sevilla FC.
Glenn Hoddle said: “The latest squad are developing their skills very well, I’ve been impressed with their attitude and effort so far during the training sessions and recent competitive matches against strong clubs in England and Spain, we certainly have some very talented lads here.
“I am still looking to offer a number of further contracts to replace the players who successfully moved to clubs this year and the competition for places is very tough. We have players on trial who were released from English clubs as well as a number of players joining us from overseas, which adds a new dimension to our work.
“With our success to date and the growing interest in our work from UK and international clubs and Federations, I believe that what we are doing here is ensuring that players can continue their development and achieve their potential, and compete for places at clubs, whether back in England or overseas”.
