Glenn Hoddle Academy Player Receives Irish Republic Call Up
Glenn Hoddle Academy player Chris Fagan has been called up by the Football Association of Ireland in their Under 21 squad to play against Germany in a friendly international on February 10, 2009.
Chris 19, from Dublin will receive his first cap at this level as he joins the squad as they prepare for a tough match against strong German opposition.
A talented striker, Chris was released from Manchester United last season, and joined the Glenn Hoddle Academy in the Summer of 2008, having impressed at the Academy’s initial trials.
He joined a squad of 24 players in Southern Spain, all released from senior clubs and all hoping for a return to the professional game.
He is currently based with Glenn Hoddle at the Academy in Spain, joining the Academy in preference to other interested clubs, when he was released.
Chris said: “I am really pleased to be called up to the Under 21 squad, thanks to Glenn and the coaches I am at the top of my game and it’s great that even being here in Spain the selectors keep an eye on you.
“I’ve played in a few matches here in Spain against top opposition and scored a few goals, so I hope I can continue the momentum and score a few more for my country.”
Glenn Hoddle said: “This is great news for Chris and just reward for the hard work and professionalism he has shown since he joined the Academy.
“He really is a special talent and I am delighted that he has received a call up. There is no greater accolade than representing your country and I am sure he will justify his selection. We are all very proud of him."
