Glenn Hoddle Academy Club Players Showcased to Spanish Clubs
Players from the Glenn Hoddle Academy Club are currently showcasing their talents at a number of clubs across Spain ahead of the new football season as clubs finalise their squads for the forthcoming campaign.
With the success of Ikechi Anya at Sevilla and Lino Goncalves and Dave Cowley at Huelva, the Spanish market is opening up to the GHA and the talented players within its squad, all keen to join professional clubs after their development with Glenn at his unique professional football development centre, based in Southern Spain.
James Simmonds formerly at Chelsea and Paul Harrison from Leeds are both training with Jerez Industrial, a club which was recently promoted to Spain’s League One for the first time in their history. The two players are featuring in a number of fixtures planned over the next week with the club.
Jay Folkes, formerly at Queen’s Park Rangers and Michael Noone formerly at Millwall are both training with Ecija Balompié in Sevilla.
Academy players have also been training at Tenerife and Barakaldo CF as clubs finalise their squads as the season kicks off later this month.
Glenn Hoddle said: “With three GHA players already signed to major Spanish clubs it is clear that there is growing interest in our squad, something we hope to build on in the future. Having players at a number of different Spanish clubs proves that with the right development there are huge opportunities for players who have been unsuccessful in the English game.
“We are continuing to showcase players across Spain, with more trials scheduled for next week. Clearly there is a genuine interest in having English trained players competing for places in Spain, reversing a trend that sees so many overseas players playing in England and proving that my concept of providing the right development in the right surroundings for players released from the English game, really does work.
“Our players have excellent ability and have developed well at the Academy and will add a new dimension to Spanish football and I am delighted that there has been so much interest in them. I am sure we will see more players joining Spanish clubs very soon.”
